Our diagram shows a school's journey towards mastery. Use it to determine where your school's journey starts!
The participants in this project are primary schools who wish to develop a teaching for mastery approach or continue their development where the approach has already started. Each school will identify two teachers to take part in the Work Group. These teachers will develop their own practice and will be empowered by their headteacher to start to bring about changes across their school.
There is also the opportunity for teachers who work in special schools to come together to join a regional cross-phase Development Work Group. Primary and secondary special school teachers will work together to develop teaching for mastery in their own contexts.
Teaching for Mastery has completely transformed the way we teach maths, and has made a real difference in our pupils. Over the years, our pupils have made great progress, but have also developed a genuine love of maths and their mathematical understanding has significantly improved. For schools just starting out on their Teaching for Mastery journey, consistency is key. It won't be long until the 5 Big Ideas of Mastery help your pupils make connections and gain a deeper understanding of mathematics year-on-year."
